Morecambe's Leighton Birchall has won a gold medal in Europe's largest amateur boxing event.
Birchall, 17, was victorious in the Male Youth 57kg category in the Haringey Box Cup at the iconic Alexandra Palace in London.
It is the second time he has won gold at the event, having previously done so last year.
Birchall dispatched three time national champion Jake Brown on Friday evening in the quarter final, winning after a second round stoppage.
He then beat Oliver-Rae Wells from Portsmouth’s Artful Dodgers Boxing Club after a unanimous points decision in Saturday’s semi finals.
Birchall then took on Finnian Wells from Attleborough Boxing Club in the category final on Sunday evening.
He was victorious after a 4-1 split decision and won the gold medal.
Birchall has now fought more than 65 times across his career, his next fight coming in August when he will travel to Germany for the Brandenberg Cup where he will represent his country.
The featherweight now represents Stockbridge Amateur Boxing Club in Liverpool.
His older brother Nelson takes to the ring on June 28 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, for his fourth professional fight, as part of the ‘Belfast Brawl’, which will be shown live on TNT Sports.
He will fight Kevin Trana who hails from Andalucia, Spain.
Another boxer from Morecambe, Alex MacMillan, also won a gold medal at the Haringey Box Cup.
