The clutch of Morecambe players on international duty have returned to training ahead of the weekend.

The Shrimps travel to Gillingham in League Two on Saturday, and while it will be the first competitive action for Derek Adams’ men for two weeks, it’s been a busier time for a number of members of the squad.

Midfielder Eli King claimed an assist in a solid 90-minute performance against Lithuania as Wales soared to the top of Euro U21 Qualifying Group I with four points from two games.

JJ McKiernan started both games for Northern Ireland U21s in two narrow 1-0 defeats at home to Luxembourg and on the road away to a strong Ukrainian side.

Meanwhile, defender Jacob Bedeau made his debut for Grenada, as the ‘Spiceboys’ held Suriname to a 1-1 draw on home soil.

Following advice from the government, Bedeau was unable to play the second match against Honduras, which Grenada lost 4-0 against one of South America’s strongest footballing nations.

And Michael Mellon joined up with Scott Gemmill’s Scotland U21 squad for the first time at Edinburgh’s Oriam facility, completing a hard week of work, although the striker wasn’t then involved in the matchday squad for their fixture.

Adam Mayor remained on standby for the England U20’s training camp.
