Morecambe remain in relegation zone after York defeat in National League

Morecambe led twice before ending the game with ten men and falling to a 4-2 defeat at high flying York City in the National League.

The Shrimps struck first in the 22^nd minute from the penalty spot. Mo Sangare’s through ball was latched onto by Joe Nuttall, and the striker was clattered by goalkeeper Harrison Male inside the area as he ran through.

Up stepped Miguel Azeez from 12 yards to convert.

York then subjected Morecambe to a barrage of attacks before half time, including seeing an effort cleared off the line by Maldini Kacurri and a header rattling the crossbar, as well as several strong saves by Jamal Blackman.

The hosts got back on terms four minutes before half time, when Ollie Banks found space on the right, and his low cross was tapped in by Malaki Fagan-Walcott.

Morecambe switched shape after half time and it paid instant dividends as the Shrimps retook the lead in the 49^th minute.

Mo Sangare used his strength to find himself deep in the York City half, and his cross eventually landed at the feet of Ben Tollitt, and he slotted it calmly into the bottom corner.

York City found a response in the 60th minute through a ball to the back post, where Ollie Banks found himself unmarked and he smashed it home to draw York City level.

The hosts took the lead for the first time six minutes later, after Kacurri failed to clear his lines, allowing York to steal possession on the edge of the area, and Alex Hunt lashed the ball past Blackman from eight yards out.

Deep into added time, a long ball over the top found Alex Hunt, and he was brought down by Miguel Azeez, who was shown a straight red card for a professional foul inside the Morecambe half.

Following the sending off, Ryan Fallowfield scored York’s fourth with a cross from the right that looped over Blackman and into the far corner.

The Shrimps host Brackley in the National League at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on Tuesday night.
