Morecambe slip to Halifax defeat in National League

Morecambe were beaten 2-1 by FC Halifax Town in the National League.

The Shrimps named an unchanged side for the match, and took the lead through Jack Nolan midway through the first half, before the visitors struck twice after half time.

Morecambe opened the scoring in the 23^rd minute with a superb goal from Nolan, his third in three games since joining the club earlier this month.

The wide man received the ball on the right flank before cutting inside and powering a left footed strike into the top corner from 20 yards.

Morecambe were dealing well with the visitors trying to hit them on the counter attack, while at the other end Miguel Azeez received the ball just outside the box and his blistering strike was inches high of the crossbar just before half time.

The Shaymen came out of the blocks strongly after half time and equalised on 54 minutes, after a cross from the right was nodded in by Josh Hmami, despite the efoorts of goalkeeper Archie Mair and a defender on the line to keep it out.

Then Owen Bray for Halifax played through Jamie Cooke and his strike was pushed away by Mair, who was also called into action to deny a Cooke diving header.

At the other end, the Shrimps were struggling to get much in the way of efforts on target, but did have a decent chance 20 minutes from time when the ball fell to Azeez but his effort was blocked on the way through and pushed into the path of Sangare who couldn't quite get his strike under control.

On 78 minutes, the visitors found the net for what proved to be the winner.

Following a corner, the ball dropped to Bray just outside the box, and he was able to fire the visitors into the lead, finding the back of the net via a deflection.
