A local cricket club has been given a big boost towards its appeal to raise money for new facilities for its women’s section.
Silverdale Cricket Club have been awarded £10,000 from the ECB County Grants Fund towards dedicated changing rooms for their female players, and a new pavilion roof at their ground on Cove Road.
The grant will go towards an ongoing fundraising campaign that aims to raise £50,000 for the project, with almost £35,000 being raised from a Crowdfunding campaign launched earlier this year.
The Lancashire Cricket Foundation, the charity arm of Lancashire County Cricket Club, assisted with the bid, with the funs aiming to support affiliated cricket clubs to create welcoming environments, provide enhanced facilities and playing opportunities, and to help clubs tackle the impact of climate change.
A spokesperson for Silverdale CC said: ‘'Thanks to Lauren from the Lancs Cricket Foundation who helped advise us back in February when we wanted to start the application.
‘’We would also like to thank Ian Shaw from Lancashire CCC and Richard Dixon, the facilities lead at the ECB, who were very helpful with the application process.
Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing Chairman Simon who without his time and dedication in this application process, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this.
‘’Also all he has done this year and the support he has given our Ladies and Girls section is incredible. We wouldn’t be where we are today without his help.’’
Silverdale Ladies have achieved a number of successes in 2023 and 2024, getting through to the finals in both years, since they were formed.
The pavilion at the ground is more than 20 years old and was built for only men’s teams.
The project aims to create a space that will allow all the women and girl cricketers to get changed and showered in appropriate facilities.
