A 99th minute goal from York City saw Morecambe fall to a narrow 1–0 defeat in a breathless encounter in the National League at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
The result sent the Minstermen back to the top of the table and extended their unbeaten run to 24 league games, but didn’t tell the story of a performance by the Shrimps full of determination and spirit, after being reduced to ten men shortly after half time.

The first chance of the game came Morecambe's way through a ball over the top, into the path of Paul Lewis who headed wide of the target. Next Miguel Azeez looked to find the top corner from distance but it was headed clear by Hiram Boateng.
Morecambe came within a whisker of taking the lead in the 28th minute. Lewis Payne released Jack Nolan who took aim from 25 yards, but his curling effort smashed off the post and Chris Popov couldn't convert the rebound.
York City's best, and only clear chance came towards the end of the half when Ollie Pearce looked to chip Jamal Blackman but a strong arm denied him when he was sent clear.
After half time, Jeff King found himself with the ball on the edge of the Shrimps area, he fired on target but Jamal Blackman was there to collect. Seconds later Liam Hogan was there to clear off the line from a close range header.
The visitors were awarded a penalty which saw Morecambe reduced to ten men in the 54th minute.
Following a corner, Paul Lewis was judged to have brought his man down in the area, and was shown a straight red card. Alex Hunt took the spot kick and Jamal Blackman made the save down to his right to keep the scores level, his fifth penalty save of the season.

The rest of the contest was played largely in Morecambe’s half with wave after wave of York pressure, but some incredible defending and wayward finishing somehow saw the scoreline remain blank.
The pressure finally told in the ninth minute of ten minutes of stoppage time added on at the end of the game.
Josh Stones found space on the right, and his cross was swept home at the back post by Ollie Banks for the visitors to give them all three points.
Morecambe are nine points from safety in the relegation zone with 11 games remaining, ahead of a trip to Wealdstone on Tuesday night.
