Thousands of schoolchildren to take part in 'Olympics' event in Lancaster

Up to 3,000 school pupils are set to compete in a huge Olympics-style festival of sport in Lancaster.

The Lancaster and Heysham School Sports Network will host an Olympics sports festival at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre on Thursday May 23.

It has been described as "possibly the biggest primary schools sports event in Lancashire" and will include pupils from years 2-6.

Last year's event saw 2,500 children take part in 14 sporting activities.

The Lancaster and Heysham School Sports Network is also hosting a family fun colour dash tonight (May 8) at the University of Cumbria sports complex in Lancaster from 5pm to 7pm.

Parents and pupils are welcome to come along.

Money is being raised for St John's Hospice in Lancaster.
