Three second half goals see Lancaster City advance in County Cup

Lancaster City booked their place in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy semi-finals with a resounding victory of NWCFL Premier Division high-flyers Wythenshawe Town.

James Kinsey's side, riding high in the North West Counties after winning 10 on the spin and started off the brightest, a cross into the box to Aaron Dwyer almost ended up in the back of net, with Brad Kelly scrambling to prevent the opener.

But he was powerless to stop the opener on the quarter of an hour mark, after a corner found Sam Goodwin who looped his header over everyone, with not even the outstretched boot of Matty Clarke preventing it going over the line.

The chances started to flow for the Dollies, albeit with not many on target. Charlie Bailey pulled his shot wide on the edge of the box and two headed chances in quick succession for Dom Lawson were the highlights of a first half ending with the away side on top.

The first chance of the second half fell to Matty Clarke, cutting inside from the right he saw his shot blocked but the rebound fell to Charlie Bailey who volleyed over, but he would not be denied for long.

After some neat play with Dom Lawson, Charlie Bailey saw his low cross cleared only as far as Christian Sloan with Bailey managing to just get himself onside to receive the pass and curl a shot past substitute shot stopper Jacob Lewarne.

Aaron Dwyer then forced Brad Kelly into a smart save, after forging himself space on the edge of the box his shot was low and hard and needing saving, and it wouldn't be long before the Dollies poked their noses in front.

Dylan Moonan picked up the ball on the edge of the box and played it wide to Toby Oliver who drove forward and swung in the perfect cross for Nathan Caine to nod home his first goal of the season.

The Ammies were almost gifted an equaliser on 72 minutes, Will Calligan cutting out a pass on the edge of the box to find Dwyer, but his effort was wide, an uncharacteristic finish from the striker who has already scored 22 times this season.

Pressure from the hosts intensified but right at the death as Wythenshawe committed men forward for a corner. Dylan Moonan broke and carried the ball forward, before a through ball to Dylan Thompson on the halfway line and a first time ball over to Bobby Bjork who slid the ball under an onrushing keeper to seal the win and a spot in the semi-finals.
