A Lancaster University graduate and former judge on TV show Robot Wars will share stories from her career at a city community centre.
Dr Lucy Rogers MBE will host a free evening talk on Wednesday March 25 at 7pm at The Gregson Centre.
Lucy is an engineer, inventor, maker and author of 'Up: A Scientist’s Guide to the Magic Above Us'.
She was awarded an MBE for services to engineering in the King’s Birthday Honours List in 2024.
Lucy was awarded her PhD in Engineering from Lancaster University in 2001 after graduating in Mechanical Engineering in 1995.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Designers.
Lucy served as a judge on the BBC show Robot Wars from 2016 to 2018.
The event begins with a 30-minute interview, exploring the experiences and inventive mindset that have shaped Lucy’s varied career — from practical engineering challenges and creative projects to her work helping people notice and appreciate more of the world around them.
This is followed by 30 minutes of stories and insights from her book as she shares memorable anecdotes, surprising observations, and the ingenious science found in the skies above, drawing on the same spirit of exploration that informs her writing on spaceflight, innovation, and human curiosity.
The session concludes with a 15-minute audience Q&A, offering a chance to dive deeper into Lucy’s ideas, adventures, and inspirations.
