Here is our What's On Guide for the week ahead.

Wray Fair 

Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, at the end of the Wray Scarecrow Festival, Wray field, near Lancaster

Beyond Radio will be hosting the music and entertainment throughout the day and we’d love to see you there! The Wray Fair takes place in the main field in the village, and includes lots of music and entertainment.

 

LADOS presents Roald Dahl’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Charlie Bucket and four other golden ticket winners embark on a life-changing journey through Willy Wonka’s world of pure imagination. Performed by Lancaster Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society.

Spitfire Girls

A play telling the story of two women pilots separated by the war who meet again in 1959.

Organ Recital

The first ever recital on a new Father Willis organ installed to celebrate the King's Coronation, from John Robinson, Director of Music at Blackburn Cathedral. The programme will include pieces by Bach, Buxtehude, Schumann, Elgar, Widor and Vierne.

Encore! A Celebration of Music with the (Ex) Mayor

Celebrating the diverse musical talent in the Lancaster and Morecambe District as the final event of the mayor of Lancaster's year of fundraising for Citizens Advice North Lancashire. Sets from local artists Off The Rails, Owlys, Chveni Khmebi, Pete Moser and Katoush.

VE DAY 80th anniversary EVENTS

Thursday May 8

 

MORECAMBE

11am: Flag-raising ceremony, organised in partnership with the Royal British Legion and Bay Veteran’s Association, with the official VE Day Proclamation delivered by Town Crier Michael Glen and the raising of the official VE Day 80 flag above the Town Hall.

7pm: Morecambe Brass Band perform a specially curated concert programme, titled ‘And Then There Was Peace’ at The Platform. The concert is free to attend, with tickets available from The Platform box office and online.

9:30pm: Beacon-lighting at the bottom of the stone jetty between the Midland Hotel and the RNLI station. The Last Post will be sounded in its traditional military capacity at approximately 10pm.

CARNFORTH

9am: Raising of the unique VE Day 80 Flag and a formal Proclamation by the Town Crier in the Memorial Gardens.

6.30pm: Church bell ringers 'ring out for peace' in honour of this special anniversary.

9pm: Carnforth Community Choir performs a selection of meaningful songs. Candles will be distributed to attendees to light in remembrance.

9.30pm: The lighting of a beacon by the town mayor, followed by the reading of the Nation’s Tribute and a short service led by the Carnforth Community Choir, concluding with the hymn 'I Vow to Thee, My Country'.

LANCASTER

10.45am: Flag raising ceremony in Dalton Square.

VE Day tea party
