Morecambe and Lancaster venues have some innovative programming lined up for audiences to enjoy in celebration of Independent Venue Week.
The week runs from Monday January 26 to Sunday February 1 and is the UK’s annual celebration of independent music & arts venues and the people that own, run and work in them.
Morecambe’s More Music will be inviting Dominie Hooper to the stage on Friday 30th January; a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who crafts spellbinding music rooted in folklore, ritual, and emotional transformation.
Her songs simmer with raw intensity and lyrical barbs, blending growling cello, textured guitar, and collective vocals into music which is dark, unsettling, and beautiful.
Her debut single for Lost Map Records; Land, is a powerful meditation on healing and self-reclamation. Written while reflecting on her upbringing in the wilds of Dartmoor, the track conjures up a landscape of isolation, memory, and grounded magic.
A national project with a local feel, Independent Venue Week has empowered local music communities, with thousands of artists playing thousands of shows in villages, towns & cities all around the UK.
In Lancaster, audiences can catch She Drew the Gun at The Gregson on Wednesday January 28 at 7pm.
A raw, lyrical Merseyside artist who will explore stories, songs and poems from her four albums which range in style from 80s electronica, hip-hop, political poetry and cosmic scouse psychedelia. Joining her is the local Delta Poetry, Pose and Performance; a poetry creative set up by Heyshamite Ned Longdon.
Also at the Gregson; Elanor Moss will perform on Saturday 31st January at 7pm, an “emotionally transatlantic” talent with family roots in Lincolnshire and Baltimore. She draws on folk influence and joining her is Lancaster’s story-driven Filthy Laugh. She Drew The Gun and Elanor Moss are being presented by Baccy J & Folio Production alongside The Gregson Community and Arts Centre.
Independent Music Week encourages artists, audiences and the wider music business to recognise the vital role these independent venues play in the industry and local community across the UK.
From giving artists their first experience of performing live, fans somewhere to discover and watch their favourite artists locally, they also provide those wanting a career off-stage the chance to learn their craft in a safe and secure environment.
Meanwhile at Kanteena on Brewery Lane, TV Cult, an eighties inspired Post-Punk band from Cologne, Germany, will perform.
With brooding and dominant bass lines, cold and frantic guitars, powerful drums, and vocals iterating between crooning goth and DC hardcore, TV Cult creates a sound that is both reminiscent of bands like Joy Division, Black Flag and Idles, yet is truly unique.
Support comes from Lancaster’s very own dull.
