A new monthly meetup has been launched to make it easier for people in Morecambe to socialise regularly and make new friends.
Local social group, Morecambe Oddfellows, have announced the scheme, after the success of similar events run by the non-profit group in Lancaster, Blackpool, Cleveleys and Preston.
Its first Morecambe meetup will take place on Thursday July 18 at the Brew Me Sunshine Café on Victoria Street at 10.30. The following month’s event will be on Thursday 15 August, held at the same venue and time.
All are welcome to attend, but are requested to get in touch with the host to reserve a space due to venue’s capacity. Guests will need to pay for their orders.
Event host and social organiser for Lancaster and Morecambe Oddfellows, Fiona Head, said: “It’s important that people have the opportunity to get together and connect with other friendly people in their community, so we’re excited to bring this monthly meetup to Morecambe.
“Ultimately, we want to hold a range of different activities in the area, so it will be great to chat to those who come along and find out what interests them.
“If anyone’s nervous about giving the event a try, please don’t be. I’ll be there to welcome you and keep the conversation flowing.
“We’re also really happy to be meeting up at Brew Me Sunshine too, as it’s a charity cafe run by the Galloways Society for the Blind,” added Fiona.
Lancaster and Morecambe Oddfellows’ friendship group is made up of mostly older and retired members, however all ages are welcome to join. It is one of 99 branches that make up the Oddfellows’ nationwide network, which is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the UK.
The friendly society aims to improve its members’ lives through friendship and support. As well as its events, Oddfellows members can access a variety of benefits including care and welfare support and a travel club. There are also opportunities to take part in fundraising and volunteering initiatives.
