The reign of Ashvir Singh Johal as manager of Morecambe Football Club has come to an end after the Shrimps announced he had left the club with immediate effect.
Johal leaves his role with the Shrimps second bottom in the National League table, five points from safety, with 18 games of the season to go.
The Shrimps, who are without a fixture this weekend, lost 2-0 to Solihull Moors in his last game in charge.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: ‘’Morecambe Football Club can confirm that the Club and First Team Manager Ashvir Singh Johal have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect.
‘’Ashvir joined the Shrimps during a challenging period and has worked tirelessly alongside his staff to stabilise the squad, integrate new players, and represent the Club with professionalism and integrity both on and off the pitch.
‘’The Board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Ashvir for his commitment, dedication, and the way he has conducted himself throughout his time. He leaves with our best wishes for the future.
‘’The process to appoint a new First Team Manager is underway. We will keep supporters informed as appropriate, and thank you, as always, for your continued backing of the team and the Club.’’
Assistant Manager, Lee Tomlin and First-Team Coach, Neil Wainwright will take joint charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis while the Club undertakes the process of appointing a new manager.
Johal was appointed in August, shortly after Panjab Warriors completed their protracted takeover of the club, replacing Derek Adams to become the first Sikh manager in English professional football.
The Shrimps won his opening game in charge – 2-1 against Altrincham – but have gone on to record only five wins from 28 league games to date. The club were also knocked out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy to lower league opponents.
