A new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system was due to launch this week in patient and visitor car parks at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
The ANPR system was scheduled to go live on Monday, and the Morecambe Bay health trust said it is designed to improve parking on the site by removing paper tickets, improving flow through the car park and helping ensure parking areas are used appropriately.
A statement from the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) said that from August 3, patients and visitors can enter the visitor car park as normal, ANPR Cameras will record your vehicle registration number on entry and exit, before leaving, enter your vehicle registration number at a payment machine, and make payment before exiting the car park.
Payment machines are located within the respective car parks at Ashton Road, Medical Unit 2 and Ashton Community Centre.
Blue Badge holders should scan their Blue Badge at the payment machine before leaving, clear signage is in place across the site, staff and support will be available during the transition period, and patients who believe they may be eligible for a parking exemption should speak to a member of staff for further advice.
"We are aware that parking can be challenging at our busy hospital sites, and recognise the importance of ensuring patients, visitors and staff can access the hospital as easily as possible," said a UHMBT spokesperson.
"We appreciate your patience and understanding as this new system is introduced."
People commenting on the Beyond Radio Facebook page on Wednesday said pay machines did not yet appear to be working.
We have contacted UHMBT to check if the system has gone live.
