A series of road closures for pre-Tour de France works will affect motorists and bus users in the Lancaster District.

Closures have been announced for the A6 Bye Pass Road at Bolton-le-Sands, the A6 Main Road and A6 Lancaster Road at Carnforth for carriageway pre-surface patching works ahead of the world famous cycle race coming through our local area next July.

The restrictions will operate between 9am and 3pm daily from Wednesday November 11 until Wednesday November 18, or until the works are completed.

The work is being done by Lancashire County Council.

A temporary prohibition of through traffic order says that no motor vehicles will be allowed on Bye Pass Road from its junction with the A5105 Coastal Road to its junction with the A6 Main Road; on the A6 Main Road from its junction with A6 Bye Pass Road to its junction with A6 Lancaster Road; and the A6 Lancaster Road from its junction with A6 Main Road to its junction with B6254 Market Street.

Pedestrian access to properties and emergency access will be maintained during the closures, and diversions will be in place.

"Residents will have noticed that advance road closure signage has been displayed for some time on the A6 through Carnforth and Bolton-le-Sands," said a Carnforth Town Council spokesperson.

"A number of residents have understandably contacted Carnforth Town Council with questions, and the town council has also sought clarification from Lancashire County Council.

"It is important to make clear that, despite the presence of the signage and the enquiries made by the town council, this is the first formal notification that Carnforth Town Council has received regarding these works.

"The town council appreciates the frustration caused by the lack of earlier information and understands the concerns that residents and businesses may have.

"Now that formal notice has been received, we are sharing the details at the earliest opportunity and will continue to pass on any further updates provided by Lancashire County Council.

"Residents are encouraged to allow extra time for journeys during the works period and to follow the signed diversion routes where applicable.

"Carnforth Town Council will continue to raise residents' concerns with Lancashire County Council and seek timely information whenever significant works affecting the town are planned."

There will also be a number of bus diversions in place during the period, affecting service 5 (Overton – Carnforth), Service 49 Lancaster – Halton – Warton, Service 51 Carnforth – Silverdale, Service 55 (Lancaster – Carnforth), Service 555 Lancaster – Keswick and Service 755 (Heysham – Bowness-on-Windermere)
