Lancaster City maintained their lead at the top of the Northern Premier League Premier Division following a goalless draw with Hednesford at the Giant Axe.

The unbeaten run in the league for the Dolly Blues now stands at eleven games following the contest, which began with Bobby Bjork's cross being met by last week's match winner Joe Amison, but his shot inside the box was blocked.

At the other end Ahkeem Rose drove from the halfway line to inside the area but his shot was blocked by Toby Oliver.

Sam Bailey had a crack with a free kick from 25 yards out, but his effort was just over the bar, before Dom Lawson intercepted a loose Hednesford pass, gave the ball to Steven Yawson, who laid it back off to Lawson, but his shot was parried away.

The Pitmen should have been ahead on 24 minutes, as Ahkeem Rose’s daisy cutter of a cross found Dom McHale at the back post, but from close range his effort was well over.

It was a bright start to the second half for the Dollies, with Sam Bailey and Bobby Bjork seeing their long range efforts from similar positions fly over the bar. Max Sheaf tried his luck from the edge of the box, but was an easy save for Brad Kelly who turned defence into attack with the cross coming for Dylan Thompson, who saw his effort from the edge of the box curl just wide.

The Pitmen were growing into the half, and next Chris Hussey let fly from the edge of the box and seeing his shot go wide and four minutes later, Dom McHale had another go at goal but his effort from distance was wide too.

Latest recruit Adam Fairclough – on loan from Morecambe - almost scored on his debut, but his effort on 79 minutes was saved by Breeden, before Rose's effort went into the side netting.

Lancaster City were pushing hard for a winner, and a deep corner by Sam Bailey gave Toby Oliver a header on goal which was saved by Breeden, who also tipped over a Charlie Cox cross late on.

Next up for Lancaster City is a trip to Warrington Town on Saturday October 25.
