
Britain's foremost silent film composer will host two shows at Morecambe Winter Gardens taking an expert look at the early cinema of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Neil Brand, a world-renowned figure in silent film and acclaimed writer and musician, will appear at the venue on Saturday September 6.;
From 5pm, he will host 'Music in Action', looking at iconic scenes—train crashes, aerial dogfights, devastating floods, and intense gangster shootouts—demonstrating the crucial role of music.
With live piano accompaniment, he’ll guide the audience through clips from silent films, showcasing how cinema has brought mayhem to the screen over the years.
The show culminates with the breathtaking stunts and comedic genius of Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr.
This is a family show, designed to entertain and enlighten audiences of all ages, celebrating cinematic and musical artistry at its finest.
Then from 8pm, Neil will host 'Funny Ladies of the Silent Screen'.
This show celebrates the hilarious women who brought laughter to the silent era.
From the charm of Edna Purviance to the innovative trick film heroines, and the wit of stars like Louise Fazenda, Beatrice Lillie, Colleen Moore, Clara Bow, Mabel Poulton, and Marion Davies – this will be a journey through silent cinema’s funniest moments.
The show culminates in the brilliant antics of Anita Garvin and Marion Byron in A Pair of Tights.
