A live comedy radio play described as a cross between The Goon Show, Carry On and The Pirates of the Caribbean will put the audience centre-stage at a Lancaster venue.
The Mystery of the Pirate Lagoon is coming to the Gregson Centre on Moor Lane on November 11 at 7pm.
This daft and entertaining show gives you the chance to release your inner pirate, make the sound effects and take part in scenes in a special edition of the play - and there's a part for everyone!
The show has been written by Lancaster's own Stefan Escreet, who went to Christ Church Junior School and remembers walking down Moor Lane to The Gregson for school dinner!
Stefan went on to work at The Dukes and was Associate Director at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, and a BBC radio drama producer.
The Mystery of the Pirate Lagoon is devised and performed by Stefan, Peter Macqueen and Claire Webzell of Ragged Edge Productions.
"Ragged Edge is celebrating 10 years of making entertaining shows here in the North," said Stefan, artistic director of Ragged Edge Productions.
"We have won awards for our work over the years and delivered creative projects with people all over the country.
To celebrate we’re setting sail with this daft and entertaining production and sharing the fun with the audience – they’re all in the show! It’s a riotous comic adventure with a search for treasure, battles at sea and the best crew any pirate captain could wish for – you!”
Claire said: "Don’t worry, it’s not that embarrassing sort of audience participation, just a chance to have a laugh together. I’m particularly looking forward to playing Plank – the dog aboard our pirate ship.”
Peter said: “We wanted to make a show that would raise a laugh, cheer the spirits during these tough times.
"Each show will be special because we involve the audience in that place on that night.
"Everyone gets to be the pirate they’ve always wanted to be and make the sound effects we use in the story.”
The cast features three experienced Cumbrian-based performers: Peter Macqueen (Old Herbaceous, The Professor of Adventure, The Scrooge Diaries), Claire Webzell (The Railway Children, Theatre by the Lake) and Stefan Escreet who draws on his previous experience as a BBC Radio Drama Producer when creating ‘radio plays on stage’ like The Mystery of the Pirate Lagoon. Stefan said “Apart from enjoying the story and having the chance to join in, the audience get to learn a few of the secrets of how we make audio productions. So if you like radio drama or podcasts this show is for you.”
Tickets are available from the Gregson’s website HERE.
The show is for adults and older kids 12+
