An Olympic medallist-turned artist is bringing his next exhibition to the stunning surroundings of Lancaster Priory church.

Neil Eckersley's 'H.O.P.E and Freedom' exhibition will be on display in the Priory from February 3 to 10 2024.

The exhibition consists of 11 large scale abstract acrylic paintings that will be hung within the wooden arches on the left hand side of the aisle in the church.

They will be lit from the back to illuminate the images.

Neil, from Lancaster, who won a bronze medal in judo at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 and captained the Great Britain judo team at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, said: "The aim of the project is to raise awareness of conflict throughout the world and the effect it has on every day innocent people.

"The word H.O.P.E stands for homelessness, optimism, perseverance and endurance and the artwork is an attempt to describe and generate a conversation about some of the experiences that innocent people endure on a day to day basis."

In October, Neil opened a pop-up exhibition at the Defying Dementia shop in Lancaster hoping to raise awareness of dementia, in tribute to his dad.
