Live jazz comes to Morecambe this week, celebrating the work of an icon of the genre.
Adam Fairhall & Johnny Hunter will celebrate the music of the legendary Mary Lou Williams, featuring stride piano, blues and ragtime, performed on piano and percussion, with experimental jazz for a unique night at More Music on Friday, June 12.
More Music’s Creative Producer, Ben McCabe, said: “Adam and Johnny have separately been to More Music a few times with different projects over the years including playing gigs with Nishla Smith, John Pope Quintet, Article XI, Adam’s duo with Olivia Moore.
‘’Adam has also attended Northern Silent’s film improv weekend which More Music supported. My hope is always that audiences will enjoy exploring the amazing range that one musician might cover across different projects and this is another chance to do that.
‘’ Listening to their album of Mary Lou Williams’ music, the gig should be fun, intimate and unpredictable visiting blues, jazz and improvised interaction.
Mary Lou Williams was a hugely influential figure who lived and played through the entire history of jazz, from ragtime to free. She wrote and arranged for Duke Ellington and taught Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.
