Arrest after motorcyclist seriously injured in crash in Morecambe

Police close off the road on Westgate following the incident on Boxing Day.

A man has been arrested after a crash in Morecambe left a motorbike rider with serious injuries.

The collision happened at just after 5.30pm on Boxing Day when a Kawasaki motorcycle travelling along Westgate was involved in a collision with a Citroen C1 driving in the same direction.

Police said the two vehicles collided as the Citroen tried to turn right to the caravan park.

The motorbike rider, a local man in his 20s, suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and was taken to hospital.

The driver of the Citroen, a local man in his 30s, was unhurt. He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving.

The road was closed, close to Morecambe Football Club, while police dealt with the incident and carried out some collision investigation work.

“This collision has left a man with some serious injuries, and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened and who has not yet spoken to police, or who has any CCTV, dashcam or mobile footage to get in touch," said Sgt Kas Hussain, of the Road Policing Unit.
