An exhibition celebrating Eric Morecambe and guided walks around landmarks significant to his early life in the town will mark the centenary of his birth.
'Follow the Sunshine' will include an exhibition at Morecambe Heritage Centre in the Arndale in Morecambe, launching at noon on Tuesday May 12.
The walks around Morecambe, led by tour guide Peter Wade, will take people to Eric's birthplace on Buxton Street, the schools he attended including Lancaster Road Primary School, the cinema he visited on Saturday mornings as a boy, the club where he performed as a teenager, his dance school and the resting place of his parents George and Sadie.
Dates announced for the walks are Thursday May 14 (the date of the centenary), Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16 at 2pm, starting at the Eric Morecambe Statue.
Linda Page from Morecambe Heritage Centre said, in a Facebook posts announcing 'Follow the Sunshine', that maps of the walk will be available at the centre.
There will be a £2 cash charge on the day and the walk will take around 90 minutes.
Eric Morecambe impersonator Bob More will also be Morecambe Heritage Centre's special guest on Thursday May 14.
Morecambe, renowned for his comic partnership with Ernie Wise, was born John Eric Bartholomew on Buxton Street in the town in 1926, and lived on Christie Avenue as a boy.
Morecambe and Wise Christmas Show TV specials were massively popular during the 1960s, 70s and 80s, peaking at 28 million viewers in 1977.
The duo also performed at the Morecambe Winter Gardens several times during their career.
Eric died, aged 58, in 1984. The comic's statue on the Promenade pulls huge numbers of visitors each year.
For more details on other events taking place in the town this May to mark his centenary, including a West End stage show 'An Evening with Eric & Ern' at Morecambe Winter Gardens on May 16 and 17, see below.
