Former Morecambe church to go up for auction

The former St Laurence's Church in Morecambe town centre

A 19th Century former Morecambe church is set to go under the hammer.

St Laurence's Church on Edward Street in the town centre will be part of an online auction to be held on Wednesday February 11.

The Grade II listed church, built in the 1870s and designed by architects Paley and Austin, has been closed for more than 40 years.

Auction House North West have a guide price listed of £125,000 plus fees.

They describe it as a "vacant church located in the heart of Morecambe close to the potential site of the proposed Eden Project" and "the property could have a number of futures uses once relevant planning consents are obtained".

Meanwhile, Auction House North West will also auction the closed-down Queens Hotel on Morecambe seafront, for the second time this year.

The former hotel and night-spot will go under the hammer again for a guide price of £250,000 plus fees, on March 18.

The Queens was unsold at an auction by Auction House North West in January, when the guide price was £275,000 plus fees.

The 19th century Grade II listed venue on Marine Road Central has been shut for more than a decade but was a popular hotel and nightclub in its heyday.
