A planning application has gone in to convert an empty former photography studio in Lancaster into four holiday apartments.
The 'change of use' application is for 29 China Street in the city centre.
If given planning permission, two new apartments would be created on the first floor and two on the ground floor.
The applicant is Joe Crookall of Sleep Inn Group, who have several other holiday apartments around the city centre.
"The reuse of the building as holiday apartments will provide much needed visitor accommodation in a central location within a characterful building," said a statement issued with the plans, publicly available in the planning section of the Lancaster City Council website.
"This is an appropriate reuse of the building whose occupants will support the local economy and adjacent cultural and entertainment venues.
"The applicant purchased the building and adjacent car park so the car park could support the applicant’s apartments on nearby Sun Street.
"The applicant then advertised the building to be let for business use from the end of 2024 onwards.
"The applicant had a very small number of interested parties, but these were for portions of the building only. Despite their initial interest, the interested parties did not take their offers any further.
"Because of this lack of interest the building has remain unoccupied for more than a year. The applicant has then explored other uses for the building and whether this could be used for holiday apartment use which led to this application."
29 China Street was most recently occupied by Elle Jones Studios/Photo Baby, which has moved to a new location on the Lune Business Park in Lancaster.
Lancaster City Council will make a decision on whether to grant planning permission, in due course.
