A Morecambe music and events venue is set for a new look, after councillors approved plans.
The Platform, based inside the converted Grade II-listed former railway station on Marine Road Central, has been given permission to change external signage, decorations and window graphics, and to fit a ‘blackout’ vinyl cover on the inside glass ceiling of the building.
A planning report on the venue, which is home to numerous music and comedy shows and other events every year, said better control of light inside the venue was needed to attract more promoters to want to book.
The report said: ‘’Event promoters need the ability to fully black-out the internal space. The current inability to do this deters some promoters from booking the venue. The vinyl would be white to the interior side and barely discernible from outside.”
Elsewhere, woodwork and metal columns could have their colours changed, from green to blue, while regarding the signs, the report says: “Where possible, new signs will replace existing sign boards. Signs have been sensitively designed and located.
‘’The design is based on a modern interpretation of the building’s history and creates a consistent, distinct identity for the cultural venue.”
There were no objections lodged to the plans, which upon being put to the vote, for the both the matter of the signage and the cover, saw 13 Councillors vote in favour of the proposal with none against and no abstentions, whereupon the Chair declared the proposals to have been carried.
