A new street warden will be going on patrol in Morecambe town centre.
The new warden/ambassador will patrol key areas of the town, supporting businesses, reporting issues such as littering or anti-social behaviour, and help to ensure that Morecambe remains a clean, safe and attractive destination.
Morecambe BID will shortly begin recruitment for the role, encouraging applications from individuals who are passionate about community engagement, public safety, and supporting local businesses.
The successful candidate will act as both a compliance officer and community ambassador - supporting local businesses, engaging with the public, and promoting Morecambe as a welcoming place to live, work and visit.
A spokesperson for Morecambe BID (Business Improvement District), who secured funding for the role, said it will "provide a highly visible, reassuring presence across Morecambe, working closely with local businesses, Lancashire Police, Lancaster City Council and Morecambe Town Council, to help address environmental concerns, promote compliance, and enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors".

"It allows us to build on the work already being done to support businesses and improve the town centre environment.
The BID said the new role has been made possible thanks to support from Clive Grunshaw, the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, and Lizzi Collinge, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, saying their backing has "enabled the BID to invest directly into the town’s day-to-day environment and business community".
Mr O'Neill said: "We’re incredibly grateful to the Police and Crime Commissioner and Lizzi Collinge MP for recognising the importance of this role and backing our vision for a safer, stronger Morecambe.”
The BID said the new warden would be part of the wider Safe Morecambe initiative, which already includes investment in CCTV, improved lighting, partnership working with police through initiatives such as Operation Centurion, and practical support for businesses including safety grants and guidance.
“My Community Fund provides different ways for local projects that strive to make their areas safer to access funding, deliver new schemes, test out ideas and expand on existing work – all using cash seized from criminals," said Mr Grunshaw.
"This funding, available for all Lancashire Members of Parliament and provided to organisations in their constituencies, is one way we are focusing on prevention, breaking the cycles of offending and stopping people getting involved in criminality in the first place.
"BID Wardens can make a big difference to safety in our town centres supporting businesses, workers and the wider public and helping our neighbourhood policing teams prevent crime.
"As Commissioner I will continue to work with the Chief Constable and partners across Lancashire to tackle crime and keep people safe.
Ms Collinge (below) said: “I’m pleased to support projects that bring tangible benefits to our town. This role will help strengthen relationships across the community while improving the experience for residents and visitors alike.
“This is part of a wider Government mission to make sure people feel safe where they live and in supporting our high streets.”
The position is being offered as a fixed-term contract until February 2027, with the potential for extension subject to future funding.
Morecambe BID is a not-for-profit organisation led by a volunteer board of local business representatives.
The BID delivers projects and initiatives that support business growth, safety, and town centre improvements.
Lancaster BID introduced its own Warden post in the city centre in 2020.
