Police have issued a warning after reports of anti-social behaviour in some areas of Lancaster city centre.
They were responding after being contacted about a number of incidents including anti-social behaviour, damage and broken glass, around the areas of the castle and the Priory.
A police spokesman said: “We’ve had a few people mention to us that recently, that there’s been large groups of the younger generation gathering up at the castle and Priory and outside people’s properties in that area. They are usually there in the evenings at the weekend.
“We know that as the days are getting longer and the nights lighter, people of all ages are wanting to make the most of this and we absolutely don’t blame you – especially after a good few months of being bundled up inside.
“We want to make sure that these gatherings remain safe for everyone so that everyone can enjoy their evenings; at the moment we’ve seen damage caused, broken glass lying around and some anti-social behaviour going on.
“We want to keep Lancaster a place that everyone can enjoy and the castle is no exception; we also want to make sure that those gathering aren’t getting themselves into any trouble that is classed as a crime, so whilst we’re happy for you to keep enjoying the evenings, be mindful about leaving the area in a way that means others can enjoy it too and not causing any nuisance to local residents.”
If you have any concerns about this or you need to make a report, call 101, or talk to officers if you see them patrolling the area and the rest of Lancaster.
