
Pupils at a Silverdale school enjoyed getting physical during the visit of a Paralympic gold medallist.
Paralympian Ayaz Bhuta MBE visited Bleasdale School near Carnforth, to inspire the pupils, staff and governors to be more active.
Ayaz Bhuta played wheelchair rugby for Team GB at the Rio 2016 and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, coming away with the Gold which everyone had the chance to see during the visit.
Higher level teaching assistant Anna Hodkinson said: ‘’It was great to see everybody getting involved, laughing and smiling.
‘’Everyone involved enjoyed taking part in different physical activities including sensory circuits – where competitors had to balancing bean bags on our head to go round cones – and timed circuits, involving one minute of press ups, spotty dog, star jumps and mountain climbers.’’
‘’To finish the sessions of we played wheelchair basketball, this brought out some positive competition between us.
‘’Ayaz is a remarkable Paralympian and inspirational speaker. His visit left a lasting impression on both pupils and staff alike, as he shared his incredible journey of resilience, determination, and achievement on the world stage.
‘’Through engaging stories and heartfelt reflections, Ayaz encouraged our pupils to embrace challenges, celebrate differences and believe in their own potential.
‘’We are truly grateful to Ayaz for taking the time to visit us.’’
Later in the day, Ayaz took part in a question and answer session, and the pupils all came away with a signed photo and all got a picture to remember the memory.
Bleasdale School caters for children and young adults aged 2-19 years, with profound and multiple learning disabilities, severe learning difficulties, and/or a diagnosis of autistic spectrum condition.
