Lancaster Girls' Grammar School pupils celebrating their GCSE results

Schools across Lancaster and Morecambe Bay have hailed an impressive set of GCSE results.

Pupils received their results on Thursday and many local schools posted their congratulations.

Morecambe Bay Academy said their results marked a third consecutive year of improved academic performance, reflecting the school’s commitment to excellence and its vital role in supporting the local community.

“We are especially proud of our Year 11 students this year who have shown remarkable resilience and determination," said Jen Pardoe, head teacher.

"Our students have demonstrated a real drive to succeed, and they have been supported every step of the way by our dedicated staff—through high-quality teaching, personalised guidance, and additional support both in and beyond the classroom.”

The school gave a special congratulations to Corban D, Sienna W, and Max R for their outstanding attainment at GCSE, and to Saheefah R and Tom W for their exceptional progress and achievement.

They said this year’s results were "a testament not only to the hard work of students and staff but also to the strength of the partnership between home and school" and that "Morecambe Bay Academy was recently commended for its exemplary support to families and community".

Police Community Support Officer Karl Smith also attended results day at the school.

"I had the pleasure of attending Morecambe Bay Academy to see the pupils receive their GCSE results," said PCSO Smith, pictured below with pupils.

"A nervous but very exciting time with so many happy faces. Many many congratulations to all the pupils on their hard work that's paid off. If your result wasn't what you wanted, don't let this hold you back of chasing a dream, there are still options of achieving your goal so it's crucial to speak with your school. I can't help but feel very old stood with the pupils but sharing their special day made all the difference."

Carnforth High said they were "proud to announce another year of excellent GCSE results".

"The school’s pupils have demonstrated exceptional achievement, reflecting their dedication and hard work throughout the academic year," said a post on the school's Facebook page.

"This year’s GCSE outcomes once again highlight Carnforth High’s commitment to academic excellence and pupil development. The school has maintained a strong performance record, with many pupils exceeding national expectations across a wide range of subjects. These results underscore the effectiveness of the school’s teaching strategies and the supportive learning environment fostered by staff."

Paul Staniforth, head teacher, said: “Pupils performed really well. Their resilience, work ethic and commitment to their studies has really paid off and I’m immensely proud of them.

Year 11 students at Lancaster Royal Grammar School celebrated outstanding GCSE results.

The school said that overall, pupils achieved top grades 8 or 9 in more than 40 per cent of all examinations (43 per cent) and almost two-thirds of all results (65 per cent) were graded 7, 8 or 9.

Ten day and boarding pupils achieved grades 8 or 9 in ten or more GCSE subjects: Amine, Jeevan, Jacob, Daniel, Benjamin, James, Tanish, Aadit, Neel and Ethan.

The school also congratulated five pupils in Years 8 to 10 who achieved excellent grades in Chinese, Computer Science, Further Maths and German.

“Congratulations to our Year 11 students on these fantastic results which they have worked so hard for," said Dr Chris Pyle, head master.

"It is wonderful to see their success! We look forward to seeing them go on to thrive at A-level and beyond.

“We are proud of every single one of our pupils. Congratulations both to the highest achievers and to all who have worked hard for such well-deserved results.

At Lancaster Girls' Grammar School, nearly a quarter of all grades were awarded the top grade 9 (24 per cent) and nearly half awarded grades 9 to 8 (48 per cent). Sixty eight per cent were awarded at grades 9 to 7.

“I want to congratulate the whole of Year 11 on a truly amazing set of results," said Chris Beard, head teacher.

"Their dedication and hard work has paid off in the most impressive way, and these outcomes are a testament to their perseverance and high aspirations.

Each student has shown a remarkable commitment to their studies, overcoming challenges with resilience and determination. We are inspired by the way they have supported one another and maintained their focus throughout their time so far at LGGS.

"I would also like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to all the staff, parents and carers who have supported students to achieve these amazing results.”

Here are pupils at Lancaster Girls' Grammar School who received their results.

Dallam school reported that pupils made excellent progress with a significant increase in the number of top grades achieved this year.

One third of language students achieved grades 7–9, while a quarter of those studying history and religious studies did the same.

Outstanding achievements included:

  • Orla Myers who gained six grade 9s and three grade 8s
  • Martha Johnson who gained six grade 9s, two grade 8s and a grade 7
  • Carla Gardiner who gained four grade 9s, five grade 8s and a merit
  • Reece Mason who gained three grade 9s, five grade 8s and a grade 6
  • Oscar Barron who gained a grade 9 in Spanish, and grade 8s in biology, chemistry, physics and geography
  • Lydia Jeffreys who gained a grade 9 in history, distinction in business studies and grade 8s in English literature, PE and technology
  • Solomon Tetchner who gained four grade 8s, four grade 7s and a grade 6
  • Antoni Kieres who gained a grade 9 in Polish, three grade 8s, four grade 7s and two grade 6s

Students also exceeded target grades in every subject, and included: Alfie Allmond, Oscar Barron, Maizi Craik, Carla Gardiner, Lydia Jeffreys, Louis Keens, Antoni Kieres, Maaz Mahmood, Reece Mason, Theobold Harrison, Ted Besselink, Chloe Brakewell, Evie Cowell and Henry Newby.

“We’ve seen a great set of results today with students doing well across a range of subjects including more vocational ones. ," said Steven Henneberry, head teacher.

"Languages were a popular GCSE choice and our results buck the national trend.

"GCSE results day is an important milestone – it’s the moment when effort and determination really pay off. I’m delighted for our students, who now move forward with so many opportunities open to them. Some will be staying with us, and heading into Sixth Form, while others will begin  apprenticeships or will be pursuing other options. They leave Year 11 well-prepared for the next stage and confident in their abilities.”

Bay Leadership Academy (the former Heysham High School) reported several grade 9s (the highest possible grade) and grade 8s.

The school congratulated Alfie Booth, saying he "has consistently demonstrated talent and drive during his years at Bay Leadership Academy".

"Another of the school’s shining stars is Leo Rabbett, whose excellent results include grade 9s in English, Science, Maths, and History," said a school spokesperson.

"Despite facing personal challenges before his GCSEs, the proud pupil is thrilled with his achievements and looks forward to starting the next phase of his journey at sixth form.   

"As Head Boy, Leo has been a beacon of Bay brilliance – inspiring his peers through both his leadership and dedication to the school community.

"Despite personal challenges, he demonstrated remarkable resilience and his commitment to regular revision and consistent effort has secured him a place at Lancaster Royal Grammar School to study English Literature and Psychology. 

"Also celebrating a strong set of results is Sadie D’Alton, whose creativity shone through with a grade 9 in Art and Design. Known for her consistent dedication and hard work, Sadie will now paint the next chapter of her journey at college, progressing her passion. 

"Lillie Baxter, whose results include a grade 9 in English Literature, has shown true friendship and support for others while working tirelessly to revise for her exams. 

"Pupils from the school’s highly successful Inspiration Centre have also been celebrating a successful set of results, demonstrating determination and resilience in the face of significant personal challenges.

"Each of these pupils has shown remarkable perseverance, and their achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout their time at Bay Leadership Academy.

County Councillor Matthew Salter, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for education and skills, thanked education staff and reminded young people that help is available if they need support.

County Councillor Salter said on Thursday: "Good luck to everyone receiving their GCSE results today.

"You should be proud of your achievements after many hours spent revising and preparing and many years of hard work.

"I sincerely hope you receive the grades you wish for.

"I'd also like to thank education staff, and to remind young people that there are always lots of opportunities to consider, even if you might end up on a different path to the one you originally planned.

"Whatever your next steps are, I wish you every success.

"Don't forget that if you need to talk, our advisors at Talkzone are on hand to confidentially discuss anything from results to feeling low, chat about relationships, or finding work or training."

Advice and support are available for young people whose results aren't as hoped for.

Young people planning to continue their studies should contact the university or higher education provider they had planned to attend and discuss the options available to them.

Young people can also contact Talkzone, part of Lancashire County Council's youth services. Talkzone has trained advisers who can talk, confidentially, about their exam results and anything else that might be concerning them.
