Police have put a dispersal order in place in parts of Lancaster after they made two arrests on a housing estate.
A Section 34 dispersal order gives officers powers to order a person who has committed, or is likely to commit, anti-social behaviour to leave a specified area and not return for a specified period of up to 48 hours.
Lancaster Police announced they had put an order in place covering parts of Ryelands and Scale Hall on Friday evening.
It covers the areas on the map below, which includes Ryelands Park and Ryelands Road, and is bordered by Torrisholme Road and Morecambe Road.
"We need to let you know that a Section 34 dispersal order has been put in place for Ryelands Road," said a Lancaster Area Police spokesperson.
"It covers the areas seen in the map, and will be in place until 9:22pm on Sunday 16th August, having been brought into effect at 9:22pm this evening.
"We have had to put the dispersal order in place tonight following a disturbance in the area earlier in the evening.
"This order has been put in place, and will remain in place to keep you, the public, safe and to prevent any further disorder.
"We have the ability to extend the order if there is a necessity to do so.
"It’s important that we tell you about this, and we thank you in advance for your co-operation."
A person posting on social media said she saw 14 police vehicles on Morecambe Road at around 9.30pm on Friday.
Beyond Radio has contacted Lancashire Police to ask for more details about the incident or incidents which led to the dispersal order being put in place.
A police spokesperson said: "At around 1pm yesterday, we received a report that a man in his 30s had attended hospital with stab injuries, thought to have been sustained in an assault near to the Ryelands estate.
"An investigation is ongoing, and as part of that investigation we visited the Ryelands estate to conduct searches yesterday evening.
"Whilst we were in attendance, a police car was damaged by a member of the public. As a result of that, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
"Shortly after, a large crowd gathered, where there was a disturbance in the area. This resulted in the S34 dispersal order being put in place until 9:22pm on Sunday 16th August.
"A S34 dispersal order means our officers have the power to disperse anyone for the purpose of or reducing the likelihood of members of the public in the locality being harassed, alarmed, or distressed or the occurrence of crime and disorder. It is put in place to protect you, the public, to prevent any further disorder, and to allow our officers to conduct necessary enquiries in the area.
"During the disturbance, a 32-year-old man from Lancaster was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. He remains in custody.
"An investigation is underway, and our officers are carrying out a number of necessary enquiries in the area. If you have any concerns or information, please don’t hesitate to approach them. Please avoid speculating online or otherwise, and allow our officers to conduct their duties.
