An award-winning piece of artwork showing detailed NASA imagery of the surface of Mars could be coming to Morecambe.
Morecambe Town Council wants to pay for the installation to be on display in a Morecambe venue for three weeks later this year.
The council is in talks with Morecambe Winter Gardens about hosting the planet artwork by renowned artist Luke Jerram.
Councillor Tricia Heath, a Morecambe Bay Independent (MBI) councillor from Morecambe Town Council, speaking at a meeting on Thursday night, said it would be "a massive event for the town".
The council has approved the £21,000 cost to hire the theatre for three weeks and will now look to confirm a date.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the artwork features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Martian surface.
The artwork allows visitors to view Mars from the air, as though they are on a satellite.
Lancaster Priory announced in January that Mr Jerram's acclaimed 'Gaia - Earth' art installation will be on display in the church from June 25-July 17.
His 'Moon' installation was on show at the Priory in 2019.
To celebrate Gaia’s time in Lancaster, a Festival of the Earth is planned featuring a wide variety of events and activities on environmental themes.
Lancaster Priory will host its own events programme around the church and Lancaster Castle area.
