Attacking midfielder Elliot Newby has become the latest to put pen to paper for Morecambe, joining on a two-year deal from National League side Barrow.
The 30-year-old arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium with a wealth of EFL experience, including around 170 career appearances in League 2, mostly for his hometown club of Barrow, and more during a spell at Stockport County.
Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Newby came through the youth system at Bolton Wanderers before beginning his senior career with Barrow.
He has since enjoyed spells with Altrincham, AFC Telford United, Chorley, Stockport County and FC Halifax Town, building a reputation as a dangerous attacking player capable of operating across the front line.
During his career, Newby has achieved promotion from the National League North with Chorley and won the National League title with Stockport County, adding valuable experience and leadership qualities to the dressing room.
Manager Adam Lakeland said: "I'm delighted to bring Elliot to Morecambe. Having played the past couple of seasons in the EFL, we are adding yet more quality to our group, a player who is proven above the level we are going to be playing at next season."
"Elliot has achieved promotion out of this league previously, bringing a wealth of experience with him. I like how direct he is, how aggressive he likes to be with the ball at his feet, the way he carries the ball, and with two good feet, he will hopefully provide another source of goals for us in the form of both assists and goals."
He bought into our ambition, the project and challenge ahead of us, and I look forward to working with him."
Speaking after signing for the Shrimps, Newby said: “With the statement of bringing Adam in as the manager, and some of the signings, you can really tell that the club wants to push on in an upwards direction."
“I’m a creative player, I like to be positive on the ball and hopefully chip in with a few goals.”
