Morecambe’s Dave Chisnall has crashed out of the World Matchplay darts in Blackpool in the first round.
Chisnall, who went into the tournament as 12th seed, was beaten 10-6 by former World Champion, Gary Anderson, on the event’s opening night at the iconic Winter Gardens.
Chisnall started slowly, losing the opening two legs, before fighting back to lead 3-2 at the first interval.
This was to be the only time he would lead the match, as Anderson roared back, to take the next five legs in a row, and lead the encounter 7-3.
Chisnall did manage an early break after the second interval, but couldn’t make it pay, and after the five time quarter finalist missed two darts at double 18 to reduce the arrears to 9-7, Anderson took out 46 to take the contest 10-6.
It was an under par night for Chizzy, who averaged 91.49 in the match, hitting just three 180s and achieving a doubles success of just 32%.
