21 players from Morecambe FC’s first team squad, including club captain Yann Songo'o have been released, the club has announced.
The Shrimps have confirmed just five players - are under contract for the 2026/27 season, while an offer has been made to one player, and the club are ‘in negotiations’ with seven others whose deals expired at the end of the season.
Midfielders Miguel Azeez and Lennon Dobson remain contracted, while it was already confirmed that veteran defender Liam Hogan would be at the club, after he signed an 18 month deal in February.
Options have been activated on goalkeeper Alfie Scales and winger Adam Fairclough, while Academy graduate, striker Oscar Wright, has been offered a first year pro deal.
Among the 18 players released are club captain Yann Songo’o, who has amassed almost 170 appearances for the club over two spells, and winger Ben Tollitt, who featured 92 times for the club over the last two seasons.
The remainder of the players released were all signed by former manager Ashvir Singh Johal, with the exception of defender Kyle Jameson, who was one of two signings bought to the club by Jim Bentley in February.
Three loanees – Tim Akindileni, Tom Fogerty and Chris Popov – all return to their parent clubs.
Last season’s player of the year and top scorer, Jack Nolan, and experienced winger Gwion Edwards are among the senior players the club wish to keep, with talks ongoing regarding their futures.
