Teddy Collis struck twice on his first league start for Morecambe as Adam Lakeland secured his first win as Shrimps boss with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AFC Telford United.

Adam Lakeland secured his first win as Morecambe manager as the shrimps battled to a 2-1 win over Telford. Both goals coming from Teddy Collis, on his first league start for the club.

Morecambe dominated the first half, and it didn’t take them long to get ahead. Elliot Newby turned his man in the middle of the pitch, drove forward and supplied an inch perfect pass to Teddy Collis. He slid in to beat the keeper to the ball, and score just two minutes into his first start for the Shrimps. Morecambe could have doubled their lead if not for a heroic block by Telford’s Zak Lilly to deny Joe Garner a first home goal.

Newby came close to getting on the scoresheet himself in the 20th minute, but his shot was cleared off the line. Paul Lewis then had a header cleared off the line in the 34th minute as the shrimps pushed for a second goal.

Then on the stroke of half time, Morecambe got their reward for a fantastic first half performance, when Collis doubled his tally for the evening. Newby was again the architect, cutting in from the left and pulling the ball back to Collis, and his shot went in off the post to give the hosts a well deserved 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half proved a much more even affair, with chances hard to come by for both sides.

The Shrimps held their shape as Telford began to push for a way back into the game. They came close in the 81st minute, when a Remi Walker set piece was sent into a dangerous area, but Matthew Stenson sent the ball over the bar from 2 yards out with the goal gaping.

Myles Boney in the Morecambe goal then kept a wicked Walker free-kick out, tipping his effort over the bar from 25 yards. However, from the resulting corner, Louis Moult headed in to set up a tense final few minutes.

They could have equalised just two minutes later, but Stenson headed over and Morecambe held out to secure their first win in the season.
