Matty Daly’s double helped Morecambe to a 4-0 win against Buxton, making it three wins in a row for Adam Lakeland’s side and back-to-back clean sheets in National League North.

The first chance of game came just two minutes into the game, after a Liam Hogan slip allowed Kian Scales to run through at goal. Myles Boney held his ground well and smothered the effort at goal. The Shrimps first effort at goal came five minutes after, with Elliot Newby’s deflected shot flying just past the post. Hogan then had a free header from the resulting corner, but he headed wide.

Joe Garner then came close in the 11th minute, from another Jake Cain corner, but he too couldn’t find the target and sent his header over the bar. Set pieces were looking like Morecambe’s best chance of opening the scoring.
Buxton on the other hand, looked most likely to score through mistakes from Morecambe, as a Hogan ball into midfield was pounced on in the 38th minute. The Morecambe defence managed to regroup quickly, and send Devlan Moses’ shot for a corner.

In the second half Morecambe ran riot and didn’t take long to get themselves in front. In the 49th minute, Morecambe sent a free kick into the box and after a bit on pinball in the area.
The ball fell to Matty Daly who unleashed a thumping volley into the bottom corner. They then doubled the lead just after the hour mark.
A quick free-kick allowed Jake Cain to drive into the Buxton half, and he set Newby free with a lovely through ball. Newby carried into the box, beat his man, and rifled his shot into the roof of the net.
In the 77th minute Morecambe killed the game off once and for all, with another Cain set piece. His cross from just outside the area found Joe Garner, who flicked the ball into the path of the unmarked Daly.
The Morecambe number ten 10 volleyed into the back of the net to double his tally for the afternoon. There was plenty of time to grab another and that’s exactly what the Shrimps did.
In the mood for more goals, second half substitute Isaac Buckley-Ricketts cut inside from the left wing and beat his man on the edge of the area. He then curled the ball into the corner to wrap up a fantastic home win for the shrimps.
They look ahead now to a trip to Southport on Tuesday night.
