Morecambe won for the first time in eleven matches after a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Eastleigh in the National League gave manager Jim Bentley his first win back in charge of the Shrimps.
The result, coupled with scores elsewhere, means that Morecambe’s gap to safety inside the relegation zone remains at nine points, with 13 games of the season remaining.

Morecambe took the lead in some style in the 13th minute.
Miguel Azeez picked up a loose ball just inside the Eastleigh half and sublimely chipped Nick Townsend in the Eastleigh goal, for his sixth goal of the season.
Chris Popov saw his header glancing wide, before Jack Nolan broke free, sprinted towards goal but dragged his shot wide of the post when clean through, while the visitors offered precious little in attack at the other end.
After half time, Timmy Akindileni rose highest to meet a Jack Nolan corner which flew just wide before Morecambe deservedly made it two. A ball into the box by Gwion Edwards was headed onto the post by Paul Lewis, and Jack Nolan was there to force the rebound home for his ninth goal of the season.
And then it was three for the Shrimps in the 59th minute, Chris Popov broke with the ball at his feet, he found an advancing Lewis Payne who made no mistake slotting past Nick Townsend on the overlap.
A dominant Morecambe had further chances to make it four, before finally Lewis Payne returned the favour to Chris Popov who ran on to a perfectly weighted ball to slot past Townsend.
Eastleigh thought they had one back deep into the second half, but Harlee Dean was there to clear off the line after James Waite’s initial effort was saved by Jamal Blackman.
The Shrimps travel to another side in the National League relegation zone, Gateshead, on Wednesday evening, kick off at 7:45pm.
