Amateur boxing has returned to Lancaster Town Hall for the first time in almost 20 years.

Lancaster Boxing Club held a night of boxing at the iconic Ashton Hall on Thursday, June 11.

It was the club's second home show, and a special night for head coach and founder Sam Wisniewski as the Ashton Hall is where his boxing journey first began two decades ago.

"Putting a show on there after nearly 20 years since the last has been a goal dream of mine since founding the club after Covid," said Sam.

"The night was a huge success with beaming feedback from all involved - England Boxing, Ashton Hall, boxers and spectators.

"The atmosphere was incredible from the first bell to the last.

"Sixteen local boxers stepped through the ropes and represented Lancaster Boxing Club.

"A huge thank you to every club, coach, official, doctor, and volunteer who helped make the event possible.

"Boxing shows don't happen by accident. They require countless hours of work behind the scenes, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who played their part.

"Thank you to our amazing volunteers who sold tickets, welcomed guests, set up equipment, worked throughout the event, and stayed behind to help clear everything away. Your support is invaluable.

"To our spectators, thank you for filling the hall and creating an atmosphere worthy of such a historic venue. The support shown for our boxers and for amateur boxing in Lancaster was fantastic to see.

"A special thank you must go to our sponsors The Sultan of Lancaster Experience, Althams Butchers and Lancit Haulage Ltd.

"Since Lancaster Boxing Club was founded, we have worked hard to raise the standard of amateur boxing in our city. Bringing boxing back to Ashton Hall was another important step in that journey, and seeing the community come together on the night made every hour of preparation worthwhile.

"We may be a young club, but we are an ambitious tribe with energy, passion, and big plans for the future.

"Thank you for being part of the journey."

The club has ended the season with some great success stories.

Eight boxers competed in the Global Glove Tournament on June 6 and 7, with 12 bouts, seven wins and three tournament, with Ruari Cannon (below, with Sam) winning the best Junior of the Tournament award. Edward Mason and Mohammed Ali also won in their categories.
