David Norris has announced he will leave Lancaster City and retire at the end of the season.
Norris, 43, has been at Lancaster since December 2018, making him one of the club’s longest serving players and a fan favourite.
The midfielder has had a decorated career and has been in the professional game for over 25 years.
He spent the vast majority of his career in the Championship, representing teams such as Plymouth Argyle - where he played for six seasons - Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Leeds United.
He was awarded player of the year for Plymouth Argyle for the 2005/06 season.
Norris hasn’t slowed down by any means though - he has appeared 34 times in a Dolly Blue shirt this season, scoring three goals.
Taking to Instagram, Norris said: “The last few games of the last last dance.
“This will be my final season at @LancasterCity.fc and in competitive football.
“There's a build up of reasons and although fitness wise I feel good, 27 years have taken its toll on the body.
“Also needing to prioritise the family and kids a bit more and my business especially with the things going on off the pitch.
“Will milk it more when it's all over but will try to enjoy these last few.”
Norris will hang up his boots after Lancaster’s final game of the season, away at FC United of Manchester.
He will say his goodbyes to Giant Axe on April 6 in the club’s final home fixture of the season against Gainsborough Trinity.
