It was a final game of the season to forget for Morecambe as Forest Green Rovers eased to a 5-0 victory at The New Lawn in the National League.

The scoring was opened in the12th minute came as Jili Buyabu was allowed to control the ball on the byline, and his shot from a tight angle found the far corner off a deflection from a Morecambe defender.

Then, an opportunity to make it two came for Forest Green Rovers when Jayden Clarke was bundled over in the box by Raheem Conte, and  Kyle McAllister stepped up and slotted it into the bottom corner.

Here’s the reaction of the Morecambe manager, Jim Bentley

After the break, the hosts – who are in the end of season play offs – made it three with their first chance of the second half, as substitute Gabe Kirclough rose highest to nod home unmarked from close range to score with his first touch.

Sub Ricardo Rees headed in a right wing cross from close range, to make it four, before a miserable final afternoon was completed by a darting run from Kyle McAllister, who saw his shot parried into the path of Ricardo Rees who poked home.

The Shrimps now prepare for life in the sixth tier of English football for the first time since 1995, as a National League North club in the 2026/27 campaign.
