Tributes have been paid to a much-loved teacher and leading light at the Vale of Lune rugby club.
The Vale of Lune announced over the weekend that Stuart Vernon, past player, president and press secretary, has died.
Stuart, a former teacher at Heysham High School, wrote the Vale of Lune match reports for the local media for many years, and was affectionately known as 'Scoop'.
Online tributes to Stuart said he was "a top bloke, devoted to the Vale and great company", "a great teacher and a lovely person" and "a gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour and laughter".
A Vale of Lune spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that the Vale of Lune informs its members and friends of the death of our past player, president, press secretary, senior alicadoo and good friend, Stuart Vernon.
"Our condolences and support go out to his family. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course."
