10 for 10 Trek: Phil McGrath supporting Barton Road Centre

Phil McGrath

Beyond Radio presenter Phil McGrath has revealed the good cause he will be supporting as part of a fundraising team taking on our '10 for 10 Trek'.

Phil will be one of the team of presenters taking part in a sponsored 10-mile walk to raise funds for 10 good causes as part of our 10th birthday celebrations.

The '10 for 10 Trek' on Sunday May 10, between our transmitter sites in Carnforth and Lancaster, is part of our 'Beyond Radio 10 for 10' celebratory year of events.

We are aiming to raise £1000 through JustGiving plus personal sponsorship money, which we will split between 10 local charities/community groups around the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay area.

Phil, who presents The Quick Draw Radio Show on Wednesday evenings on Beyond Radio, will be supporting Barton Road Centre in Lancaster.

The Barton Road Community Choir

"They're a well loved and active centre close to Beyond Studio's with a fantastic building including a lounge and cafe area, a small hall that is used for toddler groups, table tennis and other groups, a small cosy meeting room, and of course a lovely enclosed outdoor area and garden," said Phil.#

"The centre is there for everybody in the local community. The cafe is open four days a week for a cuppa and cake, and is staffed by volunteers. Anyone can call in for a drink and chat, and perhaps borrow books or puzzles from their little community library.

"Three mornings a week there's a friendly informal drop in Play Café for toddlers and their carers - there is a huge variety of toys and games, both indoors and outdoors, and of course the cafe.

"When the weather is fine the children can do a bit of gardening, and Michael, the centre manager, will often finish sessions with a singalong on his guitar.

"For young people aged 13 to 19 there is a supportive Prop Up Project which provides a safe environment in the early evening. For the older generations there's an informal bringalong craft session (crafternoon), a tabletop games and quiz afternoon, a French conversation group, and a coffee morning group with organised activities.

"Not forgetting the famous Barton Road Community Choir!

"The charity is a fantastic community resource in South Lancaster - building community and supporting local people. I'm proud to support BRCC."

Phil will join Luke Edmondson, who is supporting Lancashire MIND,, who is supporting Animal Care, and Duncan Moore, who is supporting Friends of Lancaster Cemetery, on the 10 for 10 Trek.

We will reveal more of the presenting team, and the good causes they will be supporting, very soon.

We have chosen 10 special events in the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay community to be involved in this year to help celebrate our 10th birthday.

The first of these was our involvement in Lancaster's Big Spring Clean 2026 and the second was a live broadcast from Lancaster's first ever Unsigned Festival.

Keep an eye on Beyond Radio online and our social media, and listen to Beyond Radio, for details of more '10 for 10' events.
