Twenty-six people have been arrested under the Terrorism Act at a pro-Palestine demonstration outside Lancaster Castle.
Campaign group Defend Our Juries - Lift the Ban on Palestine Action held a protest on Saturday afternoon, which was part of organised demonstrations in locations across the country including Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.
16 women and 10 men were arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: ‘’Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000 makes it an offence to wear, carry, or display items in a public place in a way that arouses reasonable suspicion of being a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation.
‘’Palestine Action was proscribed by the UK Government under the Terrorism Act 2000 on 5th July 2025, making it a criminal offence to be a member of, or show support for the organisation.
‘’This led to 26 people being arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
‘’Those arrested were taken into police custody.’’
All those who were arrested were bailed pending further enquiries.
