An event in Carnforth at the weekend will celebrate action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
Saturday’s event in the town, is part of #GreatBigGreenWeek, and takes place at Crag Bank Village Hall from, 10am until midday, celebrating the action the Carnforth community is taking to protect the planet from the impact of climate change and to enhance our parks and open spaces.
There will also be a number of contributors on the day who will be available with information, advice and support, including Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council staff, explaining what they are doing to tackle the impact of climate change.
There will be energy saving advice; information on how to bring your energy bills down and grants and benefits and how you can keep your home warm, an opportunity to sign up to an all-electric vehicle car share scheme being jointly provided by Carnforth Town Council, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council, as well as the opportunity to hear from Carnforth Town Council speaking about the Local Neighbourhood Plan – now nearing completion – and its aspirations to be one of the first plans in the country to be carbon neutral.
Representatives from local community groups including ramblers, Carnforth Wombles, Carnforth Rotary Club and Friends of Crag Bank Play Area will be in attendance.
You can find out about bee-keeping; community growing, how to build your own bug hotel and how to make luggage and other everyday items from bits of material, Kitty Brown Boutique will be displaying their new range of sustainable brands and demonstrating how they constantly improving on their ‘green’ products and credentials, and local scouts will be on hand with children’s activities and fun.
In the afternoon, from 2pm to 4pm there will be a River Walk from Mill Lane (LA2 6ND) that will include fish counting and health checks, an explanation of the solar and hydro micro grid and a woodland walk return.
Carnforth Town Council would also like to hear from anyone who can pledge a ‘random act of greenness’ to reduce their impact on the environment either as a one-off during the Great Big Green Week, or as part of a permanent lifestyle change.
