Morecambe Town Council has called for football fans to stop parking dangerously near Morecambe FC on match days.
The town council has pledged to work with the football club and other authorities after complaints about motorists parking across driveways and on pavements in residential areas near the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
Morecambe FC said it was "disappointed that a minority of supporters continue to park inappropriately on match days".
The club said it looked forward to working with the authorities to find solutions.
Morecambe councillors debated the issue at a meeting at the town hall on Thursday, March 20.
The council agreed to "explore appropriate measures to lobby or campaign against inappropriate parking on football match days, ensuring that residents' access to their properties, and their quality of life are protected".
A motion was brought before the council by Councillors John Hanson and Margaret Pattison, and then passed by the council following a vote.
Councillor Hanson said, at the meeting: "They park on both sides of Westcliffe Drive. There's not enough room.
"We need a meeting with the police."
Councillor Pattison said: "Some fans are parking across residents' drives and grass verges. It's been suggested that Morecambe Town Council should employ its own enforcement officer. We also have a problem with dog fouling."
But Councillor Geoff Knight said: "I can't support Morecambe Town Council putting its hand in its pocket to pay for an enforcement officer on a weekend. How much would that cost?"
Councillor Clark Kent said: "Parking isn't just down to local residents, it's also down to away fans."
And Councillor Wayne Dixon said: "Really the bigger issue is parking around schools."
The motion said: "While match days bring significant economic and cultural benefits to Morecambe, the associated parking issues are causing considerable disruption to local residents.
"Vehicles are frequently parked over driveways, blocking access to homes, damaging grass verges and pavements, and creating congestion on narrow residential streets.
"This not only causes frustration but also raises serious public safety concerns, particularly regarding emergency services access, which may be delayed due to obstructed roads.
"Additionally, unsafe parking forces pedestrians - especially children, elderly residents, and those with mobility impairments - onto the road, increasing the risk of accidents.
"The increased traffic congestion and vehicle idling contribute to environmental damage, while the lack of proper parking management negatively impacts local businesses by limiting access for customers.
"The council should work with relevant authorities, the football club, and local stakeholders to identify and implement practical solutions, such as increased enforcement, designated parking areas, traffic management measures, or alternative transport options.
"A balanced approach is needed to maintain the positive impact of match days while ensuring that visitors park responsibly and that residents do not suffer undue disruption."
Morecambe FC's website says: "There is no parking available on site for supporters (on match days).
"Our local school (Westgate Primary School, LA4 4XF) offers on site parking approximately a five minute walk to the stadium.
"Visiting supporters must note that there is a parking charge of £5 per vehicle, cash only."
A Morecambe FC spokesperson said:
“The club is disappointed that a minority of supporters continue to park inappropriately on match days.
"We look forward to working with the relevant council bodies and other stakeholders to develop solutions to this issue to the benefit of our local neighbours and our wider community. This has also been added to our agenda for our next SAG (Safety Advisory Group) meeting.”
