Morecambe FC will officially launch its Former Players’ Association this weekend, with more than 40 former Shrimps stars attending Saturday's fixture against Portsmouth.
After lots of work behind-the-scenes by a committee led by former Director and Commercial Manager, Les Taylor, the Club is delighted to welcome a host of ex-stars who have represented the Shrimps across various decades.
The former players will be guests of honour in the Local Choice Suite and be presented to the crowd before the game.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s fixture, Les Taylor said: “We are all really looking forward to Saturday’s game and welcoming some familiar faces to the Mazuma Stadium. We have been looking to get a Former Players’ Association together for some time and it will be great to see it come to fruition this weekend.
“There has been a fantastic reaction from the players we have been in touch with, and it is amazing how many of them have really fond memories of their time here. The aim is to grow the group and get even more players involved and hold more regular get togethers in the future.
“Anyone who has played for the Club is welcome to join and the more people we can get together the better.’’
Morecambe FC Co-Chairman, Rod Taylor, added: “The Club is delighted to support the introduction of the Former Players’ Association.
“Everyone who has played for the Club over the years has played their part in getting us to where we are today, and we never forget that. I would like to thank Les and everyone else who has been involved in getting the group off the ground and organising the event this weekend.’’
