The role the official supporters’ group of Morecambe FC played during the club’s recent ownership crisis has been recognised with a national award nomination.
The Shrimps Trust has been nominated in the Non-League Award category at the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) Awards, recognising the group’s dedication and leadership throughout the most turbulent period in the club’s history earlier this year, when the protracted takeover by Panjab Warriors from Bond Group was ongoing.
During this period of significant uncertainty for the club, the Trust played a central role in representing supporters, maintaining communication, and working to secure a stable and sustainable future for Morecambe FC.
Shrimps Trust Vice Chair Ben Cassar, who led on the Trust’s FSA strategy during the crisis, said: “This nomination belongs to every supporter who refused to give up on Morecambe FC.
‘’ The nomination reflects the strength of the fan base and the impact of collective action in protecting community football.
‘’The past year has tested our club like never before, but it’s also shown what can be achieved when fans come together with determination, decency and belief.
‘’We’re proud that our efforts have been recognised nationally, and even prouder that Morecambe FC continues to stand strong thanks to the spirit of its supporters.”

The FSA Awards celebrate excellence across the game and are the largest supporter-led awards in the UK. Running in their current format since 2011, the awards event celebrates the best the game has to offer on and off the field. Since its inception the FSA Awards have become a highlight of the footballing calendar.
The Non-League Award category is decided by an FSA judging panel.
The awards will be held at Nobu in Portman Square, London, on Monday December 1, presented by broadcaster, Victoria Derbyshire.
Panjab Warriors finally completed the deal to take over as majority shareholders of Morecambe Football Club in August, after a complex sale process that saw staff not paid for nearly two months and almost led to the club being expelled from the National League.
The Shrimps Trust began its life on December 1 2016 at a meeting of fans at Morecambe Cricket Club, where it was unanimously agreed to form a supporters' trust, then it later became a legally constituted body.
The trust represents the voices of its membership and the wider fan base of Morecambe Football Club.
