Morecambe and Heysham Sea Cadets say they’re ‘absolutely devastated’ after their equipment was stolen.
The theft includes their inflatable boat worth around £22,000, as well as an engine, kayaks and lifejackets.
The equipment was taken from Halton Training Camp, they believe at some point in the last 48 hours.
The stolen equipment includes:
60 Yak Curve Buoyancy Aids
1 Mercury 40hp Outboard Engine
1 RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) with 2 Suzuki 60hp Outboard Engines & Trailer
2 Rowing Oars
Without the equipment, the cadets, who are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year, can’t begin their boating season on the River Lune, where the cadets would usually learn skills such as safety and level 1 and 2 powerboating.
They’re appealing for information as to the whereabouts of the stolen items and anybody with information is being asked to contact Lancashire police.
The stolen boat was purchased from South Africa in 2012 following a fundraising campaign.
This year was set to be the first on the water for the cadets for three years, following Covid restrictions in 2020 and a river drought in 2021.
