Detective Inspector Adie Knowles has spoken out about the increase in business burglaries in Lancaster and Morecambe this year.
Det Insp Knowles of Lancaster Police, talking on his regular 'Beyond the Beat' segment on Beyond Radio on Tuesday, also said the number of domestic break-ins are down year-on-year.
But he said, he was concerned about the rise in burglaries to commercial premises on Morecambe Promenade and in Lancaster city centre in 2025.
"I'm glad to say that break ins into people's homes is on the decrease," said Det Insp Knowles.
"As a division we had 110 offences recorded so far this year, down from 151 for same period last year, which is 27 per cent.
"Business burglaries has gone up 21 per cent.
"I have spoken about business break-ins on the Prom at Morecambe and in the city centre of Lancaster.
"Dwelling burglaries, we have a dedicated team who looks at them. They are an extremely intrusive crime, someone coming into your home and stealing things.
"But people's livelihoods, (through) business burglaries, are massively impacted as well. So it's not great that they have been on the increase so far this year.
"It's an ask for anyone who has a business in Lancaster or Morecambe, if you need any advice about crime prevention or about how to keep your businesses safe, get in touch with your local neighbourhood policing team and they can come to visit you and advise how to keep your business safe. Whether it's CCTV or locks, anything to keep your businesses safe.
"I'm quite keen to see that number reversed, and anyone who is committing them is locked up and put away."
Det Insp Knowles also appealed to the public to help by reporting any crimes or suspicious activity.
"The more information we are given, the more we know," he said.
