A Morecambe businessman who ran some of the town's most famous entertainment venues has died.
David Hoyle, former director of Bubbles Leisure Group and founder and director of the Uniform & Leisurewear Company, died suddenly, but peacefully, at home on August 21, aged 65.
David ran the Bubbles indoor and outdoor swimming pools, the Waterfront Bar (formerly Castaways) and The Dome entertainment venue in Morecambe during the 1990s.
Originally from Halifax, he moved to Morecambe in 1994 when he worked for Sports and Leisure Management which had a contract to run Bubbles on the Promenade. In 1995 he set up Bubbles Leisure Group which ran successfully for the next five years.
Between 1998 and 2000 David also managed the Empire Arena Night Club, Hot Shots Sports Bar and an indoor crown green bowls centre.
In 2002 he founded the Uniform & Leisurewear Company, building the business so that over 20 years later it now has four high street shops, two websites, two production and dispatch units and over 40 staff, with customers spanning several family generations for their school, work and leisurewear.
David was diagnosed with MS in 2003 and despite having, as he described, "good days and bad days”, still lived life to the full.
While working as hard as ever, he enjoyed time with his family, watching rugby, playing board games, socialising at his local pub The Wobbly Cobbler in Lancaster and holidaying on the Norfolk Broads and in his campervan with his wife, Vicki and their beloved dogs.

His funeral service will take place on Monday September 16 at St Paul’s Church, Scotforth, at 1:30pm. There will be a short committal service at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium at 3pm and all are welcome for refreshments afterwards at the Greaves Park.
Family flowers only. Donations to be made in David’s memory to The MS Society.
David leaves behind his wife Vicki, daughter Becky, step-daughter Harriet, grandsons Ziggy and Huxley, rescue-collie Stella and rescue-cat Harry.
